Alex Monroe Halloween Trunk Show

Alex Monroe Halloween trunk showIt’s that time of month again, the Alex Monroe Trunk Show, when the stunning jewellery brand releases its gorgeous one-off pieces during a much awaited online event. As if we weren’t already tempted by the designer’s teeny tiny delicate jewellery and adorably British charms, the trunk show offers an even more limited selection of highly coveted pieces and each item is totally unique!

Taking place each month, you just need to register to the newsletter or follow their social media pages to be sure you don’t miss the date as all the details are sent out the night before. Once the date is set, be sure you’re super quick to the site as I’m really not exaggerating when I say these treasures are sold out within the hour (that’s coming from someone who arrived 45 minutes late to this month’s occasion only to find I’d missed out on the adorable Jackie O’Lantern necklace above)!

To celebrate the Halloween festivities, the October trunk show theme is around all things spooky with a collection which resembles the most elegant of horror stories; ghost ships, creepy crawlies and poisoned fruit, even the classic Alex Monroe bee has been given a gothic twist!

Check out the full selection on the Alex Monroe website and don’t forget to sign up to the newsletter for details of the next event… the brand’s annual Twelve Days of Christmas Trunk Show will be coming up soon… Christmas and one-off jewellery pieces? Now there’s a combination that can’t be beaten!

Gas Bijoux Celebrates 45th Anniversary

Gas Bijoux jewellery, soldes Gas Bijoux

As I have already mentioned countless times, I’m really crazy about the beautiful French jewellery brand, Gas Bijoux! Based in Marseille with boutiques in Paris, Saint-Tropez and New York, each piece is carefully hand crafted in the original family atelier since 1969 and to celebrate this 45th year, the brand have released a stunning new high end range using semi-precious stones, the Pondichery collection.

Inspired by various travels around the world, the designs and bright colours aim to represent the most beautiful locations of our planet; the precious stones of Jaipur in India, the white sands and sunkissed coral of Tulum, the bold colours of Latin America… a journey through jewellery.

Stunning stones are transformed into elegant earrings, delicate bangles and fashionable layered necklaces like this incredible triple Gas Bijoux Pondichery Sautoir which I purchased earlier this month! Plated in 24k gold leaf with semi-precious stones in shades of green and grey with tiny beads of blue and yellow for a pop of colour, this piece is a statement of its own and is the perfect companion for a classic little black dress!

Shop the Pondichery Collection by Gas Bijoux online and in-stores.

Autumn Pumpkin Pie Recipe

Easy pumpkin pie recipeNothing quite says autumn like homemade pumpkin pie and, as much as I’m sorry to see the end of summer and the long, carefree days, this is one of my absolute favourite seasons of the year! It’s not always easy celebrating Halloween in France since it’s never been much of a tradition here but I always make sure I have some spooky decorations around the house and this year I found some great window stickers and jack-o-lanterns from Lidl as well as some cute little fall vegetables from the farmer’s market. Despite being with a very French man, my festive obsession seems to have rubbed off on him and we even have an annual pumpkin carving tradition which inspired me to make a delicious pumpkin pie! It’s simple to make and so delicious so if you’re in the mood for a little autumn treat, follow this easy recipe for the perfect fall dessert!

750g fresh pumpkin (peeled and cut into large chunks)
1 roll of fresh pastry
140g of sugar
1/2 tsp of grated nutmeg
1/2 tsp of cinammon (and a little extra for decorating)
2 large eggs
25g melted butter
175ml of milk
1 tsp of icing sugar

First, peel the pumpkin, remove seeds and cut up into large chunks. Place the chunks into a large saucepan, cover with water and bring to the boil before covering with a lid and leaving to simmer for 15 minutes.

Whilst the pumpkin is being cooked, heat the over to 180C, place the pastry in a loose-bottomed tarte tin covered with non-stick paper and place in the oven for 10 to 15 minutes, until the crust is slightly golden.

Tip: if you prick the pastry with a fork before heating, this will prevent the base from rising too much.

Remove the pastry and allow to cool. Meanwhile, drain the pumpkin pieces and mash them until you have a smooth puree. In a seperate bowl, mix the sugar, nutmeg and cinammon and then stir in the milk and beaten eggs. Add the pumpkin puree and stir until you have an even mixture.

Pour the mixture into the pastry shell and place in the centre of the oven for 10 mintues. Reduce oven heat to 180C and leave for another 40 minutes until the filling has set.

Remove the pie, leave to cool, and then dust with icing sugar and a pinch more cinammon before serving. For a little extra indulgence, add a scoop of vanilla ice-cream or freshly whipped cream!

Limited Edition Stella McCartney x Breast Cancer Awareness

Stella McCartney Breast Cancer Awareness Kate Moss Limited Edition OctoberPhoto:

As you know, the month of October is all about Breast Cancer Awareness and their signature pink products. Basically, this means that whilst world-famous landmarks are turning pink in honour of the charity, many brands are creating their own pink products, with a percentage of the price being donated to the cause, in some cases even 100%!

Whilst ideally, I feel donations should really be more about the cause itself rather than a shopping excuse, pink products have helped to raise a great deal for the foundation and who’s to say donating can’t be a little bit of fun too? Just be sure to check that your item is a legitimate pink ribbon product and not just a mere marketing ploy!

From special edition Clinique Great Cause Moisturizers and pink shades of Bobbi Brown lipgloss to One Hope Chardonnay, there are plenty of options available but my absolute favourite is this Stella McCartney exclusive neon pink bra as modelled by Kate Moss… the design even incorporate the little pink ribbon details on the straps!

Tonight, the 7th of October 2014, the Eiffel Tower was lit in pink for the very first time to honor the start of October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month in Paris.  Earlier this week, Liz Hurley switched on the pink lights of the Empire State Building and over the next few days, several famous landmarks will also turn pink for the charity including The Colosseum in Rome, The Bandra-Worli Sea Link in Mumbai, The Burj Al Arab in Dubai and The Peninsula in Hong Kong.
