Lu Flux and Lako Bukia at LFW AW11

Lu Flux’s Sea and Be Seen collection was very intriguing. In the intimate surrounding of the penthouse suite at The May Fair Hotel, the designs were modelled by folk rock band, Alessi’s Ark who performed during the event.

The collection is based on the depths of the sea, with aquatic tones and splashes of brighter colours. I loved the bright yellow tights and the tunic-style tops with patchwork detailing although the patchwork dresses were a little too much for me!

Berry lips have made their appearance throughout the AW11 collections at London Fashion Week but they definitely made a statement at Lako Bukia AW11 catwalk show.

The models wore deep berry lips and heavy black eye make-up during the show, which worked perfectly with the leather shorts, silk leather trousers and chiffon blouses on the catwalk. I adored the collection of deep red dresses with metallic embellishments!

Graduate Designers of UiTM Malaysia 2011

UiTM Malaysia

Moving between Paris, Milan and London, I have been exposed to some of the world’s greatest fashion capitals so I was particularly excited at the opportunity to discover how Malaysian graduates prepared to launch themselves into this competitive world.
In the intimate surroundings of the Malaysian Embassy, 12 graduates of the Uinversiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) showcased their collections, inspired by Malaysian identity, which is famous for its diversity in culture and people. The essence of the country was strongly felt in the stunning display organized by established photographer Latiff Napoleon-Johari and the managing director of Tradisi Busana PRDodi Mohammad, who has worked closely with the likes of Jimmy Choo.

From ankle-skimming gowns to regal inspired capes, the designers captured the contrast of traditional and contemporary Malaysia and I was engrossed from beginning to end. Model Holly Croft opened the show in a radiant mini dress by designer Hafiz Sabran. The striking collection of dresses was based on sneakers, reflected in the vivid red colour and asymmetric ‘lace-up’ details.
I particularly loved the layers in Nurhafiza Mohd Nafi’s collection, drawing from the Malay martial arts, Silat. Voluminous trousers were combined with loose-fitting jackets in contrasting silver and black and oversized blue ribbons added a touch of drama to the final look.

Kepala Perahu, the head of a traditional Malay boat, was the inspiration behind the beautiful evening dresses designed by Nurul Nashua Mohd Nor. Elegant black dresses adorned with draping silk voile in pastel pink and silver embroidery were paraded on the catwalk and I could already picture myself in the full length gown with its A-line skirt.

Following on from the previous outfits was a gorgeous display from designer Shahrizat Fitri Mustafa, influenced by the traditional Wau or kite, with its bold colours and strong patterns. Despite the outstanding talent from all the students, the intricate structures of these dresses together with the beautiful array of colours made this my overall favourite collection of the show.

Having thought I’d seen the very best of the fashion world, I am buzzing about the fusion of east and west which is gaining fame rapidly and these gifted young designers definitely have what it takes!

first look – miuccia prada designs costumes for the great gatsby

Gatsby Prada dresses

Coinciding perfectly with Haute Couture WeekPrada released these sneak preview sketches of the costumes designed by Miuccia Prada for the upcoming film The Great Gatsby, directed by Baz Luhrmann and featuring Leonardo DiCaprioCarey Mulligan and Tobey Maguire to name just a few!

Although the relationship between Prada and Baz Luhrmann may seem slightly random, it is actually not the first time the duo have worked together and costume designer Catherine Martin shed some light on their friendship,

‘Baz and Miuccia have always connected on their shared fascination with finding modern ways of releasing classic and historical references from the shackles of the past… This connection is central to our relationship with Miuccia Prada on The Great Gatsby, and has connected our vision with hers. In the same way Nick Carraway reflects on a world that he is within and without, we have tried to create an environment that the audience will be subconsciously familiar with, yet separated from,’ the designer said in an interview with The Telegraph.

We can’t wait for the release of this movie (even if it isn’t for another 6 months!!), especially now that we’ve had this little teaser of the costumes which just leaves another 36 unseen Prada costumes!

shoe crush: gold ankle boots by les composantes

sezane chaussures

I am literally all over these gold ankle boots which my friend Leslie purchased at the one-day shopping event by independent French label Les Composantes in Paris.  The online fashion boutique offers amazingly cool selections of unique vintage pieces as well as their own collection however each sale lasts only 48 hours so you need to be sure you’re on the mailing list to receive your invitations in time – trust me each time a sale opens, the pieces fly off the ‘virtual’ shelves!

Sadly this model was from the September collection but if you sign up now you’ll be in time for a new range come March!

In the meantime, I spotted these cute alternatives in the Maje sale (reduced from 245 euros to 112.50!) which also have a signature tassle from this season’s trend but they are selling out quickly!

What to Wear: Paris Weekend

Last weekend I was torn between dressing up for the super-chic Chloe Attitudes exhibition at the Palais de Tokyo and keeping warm in the freezing cold, wet weather so I decided on my newly acquired (and absolute favourite) J.Crew cashmere blend French hen sweater paired with Comptoir des Cotonniers jeans, my Carolina Bucci lucky bracelet, Monica Vinader bangle and the most stunning Chloe Elsie day bag bien sur!

I love the quirky cool vibe of the sweater (most stylish hen ever!) and have had so many compliments about it already  but I think it looks even better when teamed with classic blue jeans and glamorous accessories. The Carolina Bucci charm bracelet is simply stunning (I know I haven’t stopped talking about the brand recently) and the Monica Vinader bangle is a staple jewellery piece that looks beautiful as a statement piece on its own or added to other bangles and bracelets. When it comes to Chloe, I think the name speaks for itself but the Elsie day bag is a real favourite of mine with its iconic cross lock and top quality leather, it’s slouchy enough to be worn casually but is always chic no matter how you wear it… a real investment piece!
